[…] All in all, as the US lowers the guard on Europe, the old continent’s indigenous geopolitical dynamics are likely to become more visible. Pointing at America’s waning presence as the sole driver of the centrifugal geopolitical process currently affecting Europe would of course be unfair. Intra-European disagreements transcend the US factor and have never quite disappeared. However, as the stabilising factor played by the US wanes, those disagreements acquire a different meaning.
