Queste sono due brevi note biografiche del primo consigliere alla sicurezza nazionale inglese (fonte Wikipedia):
"Sir Peter Ricketts, KCMG (born September 1952),[1] is the Permanent Under Secretary of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, a senior civil servant in the United Kingdom.

Before Ricketts took over the position on the retirement of Sir Michael Jay in July 2006, he served as the Permanent Representative to NATO in Brussels. He was also previously the Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee, leading him to give evidence to The Iraq Inquiry in November 2009.[2]

He began his career in the Office in 1974 and served as the Assistant Private Secretary to former Foreign Secretary Sir Geoffrey Howe. Apart from Brussels, he has been posted to Singapore, Washington D.C. and Paris.

Peter attended Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, Sutton Coldfield, and Pembroke College, Oxford where he read English Literature."

"Since the September 11 attacks, the need for the proper co-ordination of our efforts overseas – and of our overall security – has been urgent. But, to the shame of the outgoing government, it has been largely ignored. Instead of a concerted and coherent effort to determine the threats to our country, and defend against them, we had a hotchpotch of subcommittees (…).
The creation of a formal National Security Council, one of the most significant proposals in the Conservative manifesto, is a great step forward. It recognises that the defence of the realm, the safety of its citizens and the wellbeing of its Armed Forces should be at the heart of policy-making.
In terms of the subject matter to be debated, the Security Council must keep its focus at a strategic level; while routinely reviewing operational plans, it should avoid indulging in tactical detail, which is the proper domain of others.
In particular, it will have an important role to play in setting out the context of – and issuing overall guidance on – the next Security and Defence Review. This exercise must broadly assess not only the threats to Britain’s national security, but also our national ambitions (…)
So the National Security Council must prioritise, making sure that it identifies the most important projects and operations and gives them its full support, financially and politically."  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/defence/7716556/At-last-Britains-security-has-been-put-first.html
